Pack your Fishing Pole

Located on Estero Island, the white sand beaches of Fort Myers Beach has 7 miles of beach and plenty of opportunity to find that secret spot for fishing. When fishing off the beach you will not need a fishing license. Fishing from the pier offers shore anglers the chance to catch larger fish and get a great view of the Gulf of Mexico. The Pelicans Pitshop is located on the pier and can provide all of the basics you need for your fishing day including rod and reel. If needed, for $10.00 a day they can rent you a fishing rod and reel.

Some of the fish caught from the pier and beaches include:

Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Cobia, Pompano, Spotted Sea Trout, Redfish, Black Drum, Bluefish, Mangrove Snapper and Trippletail.

Fishing Adventure

If you feel the need to connect with the ocean on your vacation, consider planning a fishing adventure. Lucky for you, there are affordable and family friendly fishing trips available through many businesses in the area.

Whether you are looking to catch your next meal or just catch and release there are dozens of charter boat companies to choose from depending your group size. You may even get lucky and see a few dolphins along the way. The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce recommends the following Fishing and Charter companies:

If you're looking for a quiet fishing day and you're not interested in being on a boat plan a day to Barefoot Beach Preserve. Here you'll be able to enjoy fishing many different types of fish right off the beach. On the inland side of the island you'll find tidal creeks and mangrove swamps which serve as breeding areas and a nursery for sport and commercial fish and shellfish.
